MOTHER NATURE MATCHED THE NUTRIENTS FOUND IN WHOLE PREY ANIMALS TO PERFECTLY MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR CAT.
Mirroring nature, ACANA WholePrey™ cat foods feature a richly nourishing balance of whole fish, including organs and cartilage — all of which reflect the whole prey animal, delivering nutrients naturally, so you won’t find long lists of synthetic additives.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MEAT!
Domestic cats are built like their ancestors and we believe they should eat like them too. How do you know if your cat’s food is Biologically Appropriate™? Simple – just answer our ‘three meat questions’.
ACANA Wild Atlantic is loaded with 75% wild-caught fish — more than twice as much as most pet specialty cat foods, and is entirely free of inappropriate plant protein concentrates such as potato or pea protein. Plus, all our fish is deemed fit for human consumption prior to inclusion in our foods.
A full 50% of the fish in ACANA Wild Atlantic is FRESH or RAW supplying essential nutrients in their most nourishing form. Fresh means never frozen, so refrigeration is the only way we preserve our fresh meats, while our raw meats are flash-frozen at the source to lock in goodness. The other half is dried or oils to provide a strong and natural source of richly nourishing animal protein and fat.
ACANA Wild Atlantic features 5 fresh fish in WholePrey™ ratios that include fish, organs and cartilage to supply nutrients naturally and completely.
In Mother Nature’s kitchen there are no synthetic supplements, and wildcats derive all of their nutritional needs by consuming whole prey animals. Muscle meat provides protein; liver, kidney and tripe supply vitamins and minerals; while bones and cartilage deliver calcium and phosphorus.
ACANA WholePrey™ foods incorporate fish, organs and cartilage in ratios that mirror Mother Nature, delivering nutrients naturally. So you won’t find long lists of synthetic supplements — only choline, zinc, copper and Vitamin K are added.
ACANA Wild Atlantic features an unmatched variety of local ingredients that are fished by people we know and trust, deemed “fit for human consumption”, and then delivered to our Kentucky DogStar® kitchens fresh or raw each day!

Your cat is an obligate carnivore and shares her anatomy with the Near Eastern wildcat – which means her body, teeth and jaws, and short digestive tract is designed for a diet rich in meat, protein, and fat.
Based on this biological fact, and to produce a nutritional analysis that mirrors the diet Mother Nature would provide for your cat, ACANA Wild Atlantic is rich in nourishing proteins and oils from meat, all the while limiting unwanted carbohydrates and synthetic additives.

Just like you, your cat or kitten is a unique individual and her feeding requirements will vary with breed, environment, age and activity.
That’s why we suggest using this chart as a starting point, and monitoring your cat or kitten’s weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding her twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available.
When switching diets, it’s important to transition your cat or kitten as it takes time for her digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a 5-7 day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day 7 you are feeding 100% ACANA.
† Use a standard 8-ounce measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.
ACANA Wild Atlantic is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
Compared to conventional foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates, reducing the risk of obesity and promoting your cat’s peak health.
Metabolizable Energy is 4020 kcal/kg (458 kcal per 8 oz. cup), with 34 % from protein, 24 % from fruits and vegetables, and 42 % from fat.
MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR CAT’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.
The Eastern wildcat is the closest relative of domestic cats. Despite years of breeding, the internal workings and eating anatomy of wild and domestic cats remain unchanged, so it’s no surprise that their food requirements remain the same too.
Our Biologically Appropriate™ principle is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness and variety of meats that nature evolved cats to eat, and exclude high-glycemic carbohydrates, vegetable proteins, synthetic additives and anything else that nature didn’t intend your cat to eat.
Your cat is biologically adapted for a diet rich in meat. Your cat is anatomically designed to break down protein and fat from meat with her sharp teeth, single hinge jaw, and short digestive tract. That’s why we loaded ACANA Wild Atlantic with 75% wild-caught fish, including whole mackerel, whole herring, whole redfish, silver hake and yellowtail flounder, all sourced from New England’s cold Atlantic waters and deemed fit for human consumption.
Compare this to conventional cat foods which often contain very little meat, and are seldom from the human consumption chain.
Half of the fish in ACANA Wild Atlantic is authentically FRESH or RAW and delivered daily to our kitchens, so they are loaded with goodness and taste. Refrigeration is the only way we preserve our fresh meats – our fresh fish is never frozen. Raw fish is flash-frozen at the source to lock in natural goodness. The other 1/2 of fish ingredients are dried or oils to provide a strong, natural source of nourishing fish protein and fat.
Compare this to conventional cat foods which seldom contain authentically fresh fish.
In nature, your cat’s diet would include a variety of whole prey animals that provide all the essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals needed for peak health. ACANA Wild Atlantic features a rich diversity fresh wild-caught fish in richly nourishing WholePrey™ ratios of meat, organs and cartilage to mimic your cat’s natural diet and nourish her naturally. So you won’t find long lists of synthetic supplements – only choline, zinc and copper are added.
Compare this to conventional cat foods which feature one or two meats, almost never in WholePrey™ ratios, and feature long lists of synthetic additives to make them ‘complete and balanced’.
ACANA is entirely free of the pea or potato protein concentrates that are commonly used by many specialty cat foods to reduce costs. Instead ACANA Wild Atlantic derives its rich protein content from premium fish ingredients (not plants) that support lean muscle mass and nourish your cat according to her evolutionary needs.
Compare this to conventional cat foods which are either typically low in protein (and high in carbohydrate) or use inappropriate plant protein concentrates to elevate their protein claims.
Your cat’s natural diet contains very few carbohydrates, which are recognized as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes. That’s why ACANA Wild Atlantic limits carbohydrates and replaces fast carbohydrates (such as rice, potato and tapioca) with low-glycemic, locally grown vegetables and fruits. This helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, reduces the potential for fat storage, and promotes overall good health.
Compare this to conventional cat foods which often exceed 50% carbohydrates, and feature high-glycemic ingredients such as potato, tapioca and rice – starches that digest quickly, causing blood glucose to spike and results in increased fat storage.
