KNOW YOUR MEAT MATH?

MOTHER NATURE MATCHED THE NUTRIENTS IN WHOLE FISH, FOWL AND GAME TO PERFECTLY MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR CAT.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MEAT!

Domestic cats are built like their ancestors and we believe they should eat like them too. How do you know if your cat’s food is Biologically Appropriate? Simple – just answer our three meat questions.

  • HOW MUCH FISH?

ACANA Wild Atlantic is loaded with 75% wild-caught fish, more than twice as much as some pet specialty cat foods, and is entirely free of grains or gluten.

  • HOW MUCH FRESH FISH?

A full 50% of the fish in ACANA Wild Atlantic is FRESH or RAW supplying essential nutrients in their most nourishing form. Fresh means never frozen, so refrigeration is the only way we preserve our fresh meat, while our raw meat is flash-frozen at the source to lock in goodness. The other half is dried or oils to provide a strong and natural source of richly nourishing animal protein and fat.

  • HOW MANY FISH?

ACANA Wild Atlantic features fresh fish in WholePrey ratios that include fish, organs, and cartilage or bone to supply nutrients naturally and completely.

    • Atlantic Mackerel – whole, wild-caught, and fresh from New England.
    • Atlantic Herring – whole, wild-caught, and fresh from New England.
    • Acadian Redfish – whole, wild-caught, and fresh from New England.
    • Silver Hake – whole, wild-caught, and fresh from New England.
    • Yellowtail Flounder – whole, wild-caught, and fresh from New England.

LIMITED SUPPLEMENTS ADDED

In Mother Nature’s kitchen there are no synthetic supplements, and wildcats derive all of their nutritional needs by consuming whole prey animals. Muscle meat provides protein; liver, kidney and tripe supply vitamins and minerals; while bones and cartilage deliver calcium and phosphorus.

ACANA WholePrey foods incorporate fish, organs and cartilage in ratios that mirror Mother Nature, delivering nutrients naturally. So you won’t find long lists of synthetic supplements — only choline, zinc, copper and Vitamin K are added.

FOOD FOR CARNIVORES

Your cat is an obligate carnivore and shares her anatomy with the Near Eastern wildcat, which means her body, teeth, jaws, and short digestive tract are designed for a diet rich in meat, protein, and fat.

Based on this biological fact, and to produce a nutritional analysis that mirrors the diet Mother Nature would provide for your cat, ACANA Wild Atlantic is rich in nourishing protein and oils from meat, all the while excluding grains, gluten, and long lists of synthetic additives found in some cat foods.

YOUR CAT IS SPECIAL

Just like you, your cat or kitten is a unique individual and her feeding requirements will vary with breed, environment, age, and activity.

That’s why we suggest using this chart as a starting point, and monitoring your cat or kitten’s weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding her twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available.

When switching diets, it’s important to transition your cat or kitten as it takes time for her digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a five-to-seven-day day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day seven you are feeding 100% ACANA.

† Use a standard 8-ounce measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

ACANA Wild Atlantic is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.

CALORIE DISTRIBUTION

Compared to some cat foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates, promoting your cat’s peak health.

Metabolizable Energy is 4020 kcal/kg (458 kcal per 8 oz. cup), with 34% from protein, 24% from vegetables and fruit, and 42% from fat.

BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE

MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR CAT’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.

The Near Eastern wildcat is the closest relative of domestic cats. Despite years of breeding, the internal workings and eating anatomy of wild and domestic cats remain unchanged, so it’s no surprise that their food requirements remain the same too.

Our Biologically Appropriate principle is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness, and variety of meat that nature evolved cats to eat, and exclude grains, gluten, synthetic additives, and anything else that nature didn’t intend your cat to eat.

  • RICH IN FISH (75%)

Your cat is biologically adapted for a diet rich in meat. Your cat is anatomically designed to break down protein and fat from animal ingredients with her sharp teeth, single-hinge jaw, and short digestive tract. That’s why we loaded ACANA Wild Atlantic with 75% wild-caught fish, including whole mackerel, herring, redfish, silver hake, and yellowtail flounder, all sourced from New England’s cold Atlantic waters.

  • HIGH FRESH FISH INCLUSIONS (1/2)

Half of the fish in ACANA Wild Atlantic is authentically FRESH or RAW, so it’s are loaded with goodness and taste. Refrigeration is the only way we preserve our fresh meat – our fresh fish is never frozen. Raw fish is flash-frozen at the source to lock in natural goodness. The other 1/2 of fish ingredients are dried or oils to provide a strong, natural source of nourishing fish protein and fat.

  • A VARIETY OF WHOLE FISH (5)

In nature, your cat’s diet would include a variety of whole prey animals that provide all the essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals needed for peak health. ACANA Wild Atlantic features a rich diversity quality ingredients in richly nourishing WholePrey ratios of fish, organs, and cartilage or bone to mimic your cat’s natural diet and nourish her naturally. So you won’t find long lists of synthetic supplements – only choline, zinc and copper are added.

  • RICH IN FISH PROTEIN (35%)

ACANA is entirely free of grains or gluten that are commonly used by many specialty cat foods to reduce costs. Instead ACANA Wild Atlantic derives its rich protein content from quality fish ingredients, not plants, that support lean muscle mass and nourish your cat according to her evolutionary needs.

  • Your cat’s natural diet contains almost no carbohydrate at all. That’s why ACANA features fruits and vegetables in limited quantities—meaning no extra non-essential carbohydrate to be stored as body fat.

This helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, reduces the potential for fat storage, and promotes overall good health.

At Champion Petfoods, our vision is to be trusted by Pet Lovers everywhere, and that means producing dog and cat foods and treats of exceptional quality. Whenever we enhance our diets we use our Biologically Appropriate mandate to guide us. Recent enhancements to our ACANA Singles foods included an increase in meat content from 50% to 60%. While an increase in meat is usually a good thing, trying to balance the nutrients in a food that relies on one animal source can be challenging. After adding more fish to our ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel food, we were not satisfied with the new vitamin and mineral balance in the enhanced food. Rather than keeping one ACANA Singles food at 50% and moving the other foods to 60%, we’ve decided to discontinue ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel effective immediately.
